Liquid Sky invites the audience to experience a mysterious canopy that transform the perceived ceiling plane of an existing 4'W x 60'L x 25'H dead end corridor into a peculiar, alien spelunk. Installed in the unlit hallway, acrylic ribs suspended from the walls support an iridescent film above and beside the user, creating a semi-transparent cave condition.
The users explore the installation with headlamps, creating a sense of adventure, maximizing the variety of lighting strategies employed, causing the environment to constantly change. At times the undulating ceiling plane feels impossibly light as it flutters in the wake of people passing, while at others it has the lazy fluidity of an oil slick or the fractured quality of shattered glass, an ever-changing river above, individualized by the each user’s unique experience.
