A Portrait of Sun Ra, an American Jazz musician, composer, and a pioneer of Afrofuturism, inspired by ancient Egyptian attire and the space age. This portrait is composed to frame Sun Ra's historic significance to black culture and American music. The top left frame is an abstraction of one of his headdresses, designed to reflect the cosmos. The top right frame, the imagery from the album cover Super-Sonic Jazz, the first record released on the label El Saturn Records, ran by Sun Ra and his business partner Alton Abraham. The lower left and right corners are two birds—inspired by the bird masks from Space Is The Place.
